This Motel 6 offers a prime San Francisco Bay location and affordability but suffers from significant maintenance issues, cleanliness inconsistencies, and staff rudeness. Guests report a mix of peaceful moments among the neighborhood's transient population, alongside feeling unsafe due to potential criminal activity nearby.

Never again will I stay here! I have to work in SF 4 days a month and decided I’d save money and stay at Motel 6. You lose comfort, your ability to sleep, peace of mind and fear for your safety when you choose cost in this area. Let’s start with check in. You can’t enter the lobby. They have a plexus glass window you conduct business through. Similar to a bank transaction. There are people casing the parking lot. Once I found my room, I found it dirty and stained. See pictures. Each night at 1am I was awoken by the room above me. They were stomping, jumping, and dropping things till 3:30 am. The 2nd night I’m awoken at 1am to yelling. The tenant above me is fighting with a masked man stalking rooms. He yelled at him for about 30 minutes then went back to his room to stomp and yell for another hour. At 3:30, I’m awoken by yelling, screaming for help, a threats to call the police then crying. Yes, at that point I called the police. As I write this review from my scary room at 5:20AM, no police have arrived. I decided to pack up and hoping police will get here so I can safely get to my car. Wish me luck.

The location is everything! It feels safe at night, I saw a security guard when I was taking my dog on the last walk for the night. The perk of dogs staying free is outstanding. Yes things are run down and some neighbors are sketchy, but overall it was pretty clean, peaceful and there was a great view in the back, so it was overall pretty much worth it! The staff were pretty amazing too!

I wish I could give no stars. I’ve been going through several hardships, which is why I came here in the first place. From the very first day we checked in, I was disappointed and frustrated because the heater didn’t work, there was no microwave, and the refrigerator was extremely small. None of this matched what was advertised on the booking website, and it immediately made an already stressful situation worse. My brother and I have now been staying here for two weeks. When we tried to extend our stay today, we were suddenly told that we had to leave because guests are not allowed to book longer than two weeks. This rule was never explained to us at check in or at any point during our stay. Trying to find a solution, I attempted to make a new reservation under my name, but the front desk employee immediately denied it and said my brother would not be allowed to stay. I explained to him that we are currently homeless, it’s raining outside, and we have nowhere to go on such short notice. Instead of showing any understanding or offering possible options, he told me that our situation was not his problem and that we still had to leave. That response was extremely upsetting and felt very dismissive of our circumstances. We have been respectful guests, we have followed the rules, and we have paid for our stay on time. To be treated with no sympathy or compassion while we are already struggling is deeply disappointing. Being homeless is already hard enough, and we should not feel discriminated against or pushed out without warning. This entire situation is unacceptable, and I will be contacting the corporate office to file a formal complaint. We believed our business and our money were valued here, but this experience has made it feel like that is not the case.

Great place to stay. Super affordable and good location. The view is pretty good. There's a nice area along the water where you can take a stroll, and a dock in the back you can walk out onto. Its not super quiet, but its not insanely loud either. Its probably one of the best motel 6 I have stayed at. The biggest appeal, I think, is there pet friendly policy. You just have to tell them you have pets (up to 2) and they put a $100 hold on your card, which is refunded after your stay (though sometimes it takes a week or 2). I travel with my dogs sometimes and thats a big reason I choose Motel 6. I had an issue with them not having the room I booked available this last time, but Stephany made sure we got refunded the difference and offered us the correct room when it became available, but we decided to just stay in the room we got since we are only staying one more night.

I had a reservation for a room equipped for 2 with a mini-fridge, I had a reservation for a room equipped for two with a mini-fridge. The staff was very rude, did whatever they wanted, didn't respect my reservation, and gave me a different room than the one I requested for a higher price. When I told them it wasn't the room I had reserved, they didn't give me an explanation or a solution. I was left with a room that I didn't like. A very unpleasant experience.

I was able to sleep. The bathroom had a lot of hair and believe it or not shredded lettuce like a sandwich was eaten on the toilet. The floors were dirty made the bottom of my feet black. The bedding seemed cleaned and I did sleep. There was rowing happening in the water behind the hotel early in the morning so expect to hear sirens. The room was cheap and booked last minute.

The room looked clean, but the floor was so filthy. There were so many homeless people sleeping in stairways and knocking on doors. The man at the front desk was one of the most unfriendly people I’ve met in my life. I had to go to the hotel next door to get ice, being that there was no refrigerator. There is also no lobby, even though it said coffee in lobby…. Which means no coffee. The positive was that it was right by the lake.

Review: Disappointing Front-Desk Experience Despite an Acceptable Room I’ve stayed at Motel 6 for many years, going all the way back to when they were known for being the most pet-friendly option around. Even though I don’t travel with a pet anymore, that long-standing trust has always kept me loyal to the brand. This particular stay, however, was disappointing — not because of the room itself, which was about what one would expect for this level of motel, but because of the front-desk experience. The staff were unwavering and borderline rude, making it difficult to resolve even small issues. I initially requested a water-view room. I was told they wouldn’t know availability until check-in, and later was told I had booked “incorrectly.” To fix it, I paid for a higher-priced room. Once checked in, the TV didn’t work the first night (maintenance came batteries were changed the following day), and the second night the screen went out completely. Instead of simply switching rooms, I was told to again wait for maintenance. Even when minor things went wrong — such as the outlet not holding my laptop plug — I didn’t mind much. I understood what I was paying for and kept realistic expectations. What truly made the stay unpleasant was the lack of flexibility, empathy, and professionalism from the front desk. Corporate customer service was polite but explained that policies have changed, and issues now have to be resolved directly with the individual hotel. Unfortunately, that leaves loyal guests like myself with nowhere to turn when a franchise location fails to uphold Motel 6’s standards. It’s disappointing to say, but sometimes long-time allegiances fade when a company’s commitment to its guests does.
