The AC Hotel Oakland Downtown is generally well-received for its modern design, cleanliness, and convenient location near downtown Oakland. Recent reviews highlight friendly staff and comfortable rooms, particularly praising the bay views. However, some concerns have emerged regarding parking costs, bathroom issues (like non-fitting lids and misaligned doors), a lack of available amenities, and inconsistent room service.
Front desk Mauri and Yosseline were so hospitable and made our stay even better as they were speedy and kind with our family's weekend needs. All the valet team also were also welcoming, quick and warm. Clean property and a quiet stay. We enjoyed snacks from the market and drinks from the bar. Our top floor view was lovely and the hotel was located a convenient distance from all the Alameda & Oakland spots we got to enjoy. We'll be back.
This hotel was clean and quiet. The beds are comfortable. We always slept well in the five nights we spent there. The staff are excellent! One of the maintenance managers, Nathan, patiently helped me get my Kindle connected to the hotel WiFi. Another, Kolade, helped with TV issues and ensured that we could wind down watching a favorite show after a long day. Front desk staff answered many questions and offered solutions to a number of little issues, including suggesting where I could get a pair of inexpensive sunglasses after I lost mine. The breakfasts are several steps above many other hotel breakfasts we've had - real, (_not_ powdered!) scrambled eggs from cage-free hens were a highlight. They offered vegetarian options as well as sausages, bacon (quite thin! Meh), and other possibilities, varying them from one day to the next. Oatmeal and waffles were available. There were cereal options and fresh apples and bananas. My only wish was for more tea varieties. A few small cons: The hot cup lids in the rooms do not fit the cups (the black lids in the breakfast area fit; the white lids in the rooms do not). The shower door and bathroom door in the first room we had (1318) do not fit correctly - the main door to the bathroom is very noisy to close/open, and shower doors don't want to stay closed. We changed rooms (to 1717) due to TV issues, and the bathroom and shower doors were great. However, the mirror lighting began strobing when I turned the lights to the bright setting. These cons were so minor relative to everything else that was great that I'm still giving this hotel five stars overall! We had a wonderful view of the bay from both rooms, so we were able to enjoy watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets over Mount Tamelpais - one was especially spectacular. The attached photo was taken from our hotel room. The hotel is within walking distance of some nice restaurants and Walgreens. Overall, the area felt plenty safe for the two of us when walking together. We enjoyed several different restaurants of different ethnic cuisines, the Oakland Museum of California, and our granddaughter's wedding while there! A big thank you to the great staff for ensuring that our needs were met and we were comfortable!
I'm Lifetime Bonvoy, and Titanium, so I clearly stay in a lot of Marriott properties. I booked this AC to avoid the shortcomings of other local Marriott properties in town, but found a whole new set of challenges. Guests who have oversize vehicles or want to park on-own are completely out of luck with hotel parking. On-street parking is high-risk. Staff are unable to make simple folio corrections or changes that would be within the authority of staff at any other Marriott property. They're actually generally inept. Restaurant charges premium, delivers mediocre. Rooms are tiny and have worn mattresses, but mine at least had a great view. Cel and wifi don't work in the elevators so don't depend on your mobile key. Lobby restrooms are locked down, you need to get a code from front desk. This is a first for an AC-level hotel, in my experience. Many guests at this property are prone to all-nighters, so don't expect to get rest.
Almost a five-star stay. The overall experience was great, but the parking situation was disappointing. I was initially told parking would be $50 per night, but later had to call back and dispute charges after being billed $120 for two nights. That’s when I was informed there is an additional $10 fee on top of the $50 valet parking, which was not clearly explained upfront and feels excessive. Additionally, for a hotel with such beautiful views, it would be nice if rooms included amenities like microwaves and balconies to fully enjoy the experience.
Great location in downtown Oakland. Clean rooms. Front desk staff were super helpful with getting some documents printed. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. They have valet also which was very convenient. Our room was quiet and had a great view!
I had a very disappointing stay at AC Hotel Oakland after 36 hours of travel. The staff were kind and professional, but the room design is a serious issue. The bathroom ventilation fan was extremely loud, could not be turned off, and ran continuously through the night. The sliding glass bathroom door, amplifies the noise. I see now that other guests have described it as sounding like a jet engine, and that was my experience as well (truly the last sound you want to hear after a 14 hour international flight). The constant noise made sleep nearly impossible. Marriott Bonvoy Customer Care acknowledged that the experience fell short, but the matter was referred back to the property. Despite a follow-up, I never received a response or resolution from the hotel. I would be cautious about staying here if you need a quiet room.
Relatively new hotel. Clean and modern. Rooms are nice, spacious bathrooms with good counter space. Location is nothing great… nowhere to walk to for food. They have a bar and restaurant in the lobby. Small menu but everything I have eaten has been good. JP the bartender is great! Always remembers my order.
Very comfortable rooms - found the features well thought out. Breakfast was decent (real scrambled eggs?!?!), gym had solid options, location good. Would stay here again.
Hotel itself was great but parking?? Straight up outrageous!! They only have valet for $50 a night or street parking which was way cheaper, I think we pay maybe $5 for the 3 night we were there. The staff that night also weren’t the nicest it’s almost as if they were mad we didn’t do the valet with them. Do your research & don’t fall for it!!
The staff was very friendly, helpful and polite. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location is excellent within walking distance to the Bart, Oakland China town, and museum's. Our room had a wonderful view and the breakfast was included. Thanks for a. Wonderful experience I will be back again.
