The Oakland Marriott City Center receives generally positive reviews, praised for its convenient location near BART and Oakland Arena, friendly staff, and accessible amenities. However, recurring concerns include inconsistent service quality, noise issues (particularly ceiling noise), and occasional issues with cleanliness and outdated room features. Recent reviews highlight an updated aesthetic and a good base for exploring the Bay Area, while older ones noted problems with pricing and overall value.

I used to enjoy this hotel a great deal more. The staff at the front desk was very friendly during my last visit but the bar staff was not. I was surprised by my experience there and hope they were tired and not selective about who they serve with kindness. Additionally, the ceiling of the room we stayed in was filthy. The restroom did not have a fan which made it uncomfortable during steamy and smelly moments. The hotel clearly needs an upgrade and will no longer be my first choice during visits.

This Marriott is located downtown/City Center in Oakland. If you ever have an event to attend in the area this is a great hotel. I’m not gonna lie, the location is OK. If you’re not used to a busy city like Oakland, San Francisco, New York City etc, then you might think differently. Me, I love experiencing all downtown and city centers. This hotel is near a train station aka BART. You can hop on and off all the way to San Francisco. This is also near restaurants and small shops. Ambiance: it is a beautifully decorated with much Oakland and City vibes. I’m not sure when they were established here but it looks brand new. The rooms are clean and spacious. Service: it’s great. Walked up to the front desk and I was checked in within five minutes. There were a couple of people in line but, I hardly waited. There is a restaurant in the hotel and may I say you should order their five layer chocolate cake? It’s delish! This hotel also has a lovely event space. One con for some people might be that you can hear the music from the event from the lobby to the second floor. I didn’t mind it though. I’d stay here again. Note: parking fees are different whether you are doing self parking or valet. We chose Valet! Great service!

Good central location. Being right next to BART, it was a great location for a concert at Oakland Arena without needing to drive/Uber. Getting into San Francisco and Berkeley were also super easy. There's lots of bus service nearby too. And BART can get you to either OAK or SFO airports. I know Oakland has a reputation, but we never felt unsafe in this area. Walked around a little bit to pick up food, head to the BART station, or visit the book store and video game museum across the street. Never any problems for us. A lot of the restaurants nearby seem to be closed on weekends (or just Sunday) though, so check hours. Rooms were nice, and there are some great views depending on your location (nice views of SF from the elevator lobbies). The Smart TV was a little glitchy at one point, but I had the same problem at SLC Marriott last week, so I don't blame the property. The food was above average for a hotel restaurant. Best hotel breakfast I've had in quite a while. Expensive, yeah a bit, but it's a hotel in a very high cost of living area, so it wasn't that bad. All the staff was friendly, and storing our bags for a few hours after check out was also easy and convenient. We paid $100/night less than similar hotels in San Francisco. Since we were visiting Oakland, SF, and Berkeley, this location worked out great and was a good value, didn't feel like we missed out at all.

4 out of 5 stars solely because of the price of food at the restaurant. The pizza was very good but the prices were sky high. Otherwise, nice location, clean rooms, staff was accommodating.

The hotel rooms are clean, comfortable, and very suitable for studying, which is why we chose this hotel for the bar exam. However, the restaurant is disappointing and the food options are quite poor. The main issue is the pricing and lack of flexibility during the bar exam period. We paid almost four times the normal room rate because of the exam, yet they did not allow a late check-out. When we asked to extend our stay for a few more hours, we were told it would cost an additional $500. This feels like taking advantage of bar exam applicants during an already stressful and important time. While the rooms are nice, the overall experience was negatively affected by the hotel’s inflexible and opportunistic pricing policy.

Some staff do not have great customer service skills or common sense!!! The rooms are nice, had to ask for housekeeping twice, asked for creamer out of the M Lounge for my coffee and staff act like they good not get me some creamer so I had to get a manager who actually comprehended what I stated and she finally got me creamer for coffee...whew. I think more staff training is needed. Great views and Lonnie is amazing!!!

This is the perfect base for sightseeing in the Bay Area. It's close to the station, with easy access to San Francisco and Berkeley, and the rental car center makes it convenient for longer trips. There's a Laundromat in the hotel, and a Walgreens nearby, so you won't have any trouble finding anything you need during your stay. Above all, the front desk and cleaning staff were very supportive, making for a comfortable and safe stay. I'll definitely book this hotel again on my next trip.

Staff has been showing courtesy on another level. Warm kids friendly room with a great view just look at the pictures. Great bathroom, beds and location near Chinatown and renovated neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay all the way through.

Oakland Marriott City Center is one of the nicest Marriott properties I’ve ever stayed at. The decor in the rooms is stylish and modern with great views of the city. Throughout the property there are beautiful artistic photos of the Bay Bridge that give the hotel a local touch. The large lobby is inviting with plenty of comfortable seating and space to relax or meet with friends. The M Lounge here is the biggest I’ve seen with tons of seating areas, private nooks, and an absolutely stunning view of the bay. It feels like its own destination within the hotel. The gym is a good size, clean, and also features more of the same local photography that ties everything together. With so many restaurants nearby and an upscale yet warm atmosphere, I would definitely stay here again.

This place feels recently renovated. Everything was in excellent condition. Had a substantial room on the 20th floor with view of San Francisco in a hotel that is literally across the street from BART. Was charged $125/ night, no "amenity fee" like San Francisco, and got a "points boost from Chase that allowed me to stay an extra night free. Awesome experience. Assume prices will rise as word gets out how nice this is.
